Welcome to Gino’s!

I designed a series of mechanical assets for an isometric video game set in the 1970s.

The simple, rigid perspective of an isometric art style translates well into a calm and casual game experience. Since diners and restaurants are common settings in these types of games, I illustrated machines that could be used in various spaces of food and entertainment. The process started by researching and sketching items that would have existed in the 1970s, then using an isometric grid over the sketches to gradually block in shapes. Combining the chunky, simplified forms with warm retro colors resulted in a cozy video game atmosphere.

Game assets aren’t meant to float alone in a void, so I illustrated an isometric pizzeria to place the objects in context. This particular setting was inspired by a building in MySims, one of my favorite games growing up.
